Minibus accident in Lusaka claims 3 lives


THREE people have died on the spot while 13 others sustained injuries after a Hiace Minibus they were travelling in from Lusaka to Mumbwa had a tyre burst and careered off the road.

The accident happened today Saturday around 10:20 hours near Sable Farm along Mumbwa Road and involved a Toyota Hiace Minibus registration number AlC 351 which had 16 passengers plus the driver on board.

Police Spokesperson Esther Mwaata said the three deceased passengers have not been identified yet.

Katongo ssid the accident happened due to a tyre bust of a rear right tyre which made the driver identified as Patrick Moyo to lose control of the motor vehicle and carrered off the road.

She narrated that the three passengers who died jumped through Windows.

Meanwhile Katongo said some of the injured are in Mwembeshi Clinic while those with serious injuries have been reffered to UTH and that the bodies of the deceased persons are also in UTH mortuary.

In a related development, Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale has survived an accident after he hit a cow which was crossing the road.

The accident happened on Friday around 18:40 hours at Mchimazi area along Great East road.

Katongo said the Minister’s vehicle Toyota Prado registration number BAJ 518 which was being driven from west to east direction had damaged grill,left fender and broken left headlump.
