EIGHT ring leaders of the riots that started last night at the university of Zambia have been apprehended by a combined team of Police Officers, Army and OP.
According to a source within the combined team, the apprehended students have disclosed that they were paid to instigate other students to riot over their delayed allowances by a named opposition party.
Meanwhile, one female student has died after trying to jump off the building that caught fire when the police dispersed teargas canisters to quail the violence.
The students took to the road their protests and damaged properties.
However, the source says, the eight students are being detained at the guard room at Arakan Barracks where after being tortured revealed that the sporadic incidents of violence that characterised the University of Zambia were engineered by a name opposition leader, for the students to rise against government.
Meanwhile, EEP leader Chilufya Tayali has stated in a statement today that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is trying to use unrest to usurp power.
Tayali says the Intelligence Unit is either failing President Lungu by not briefing him ahead of events or they are incompetent.
Yesterday at a press briefing, UPND leader declared that he wishes to see that Zambians can rise against government like what happened in 1991 when riots broke out throughout the country.
Tayali believes that Hakainde’s statement was an incitement for the students to become violent.
However, the OP sources have said that Hakainde Hichilema may be arrested for his reckless statement.
